Keyboard shortcuts
My Thought Safe is built to be used with a mouse, but a few keys save time, and one of them is worth learning by heart.
Lock the vault instantly#
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+L | Locks the open vault straight away and returns to the unlock screen. |
It works on every screen whenever a vault is open, even while you are typing in the chat box, and even while the AI is writing a reply. Use it the moment someone walks in.
Let the app do it for you, too. Any key press, click, scroll or mouse movement counts as activity. After the time set in Settings → Security → Auto-lock without any, the vault locks itself.
Writing in a conversation#
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| Enter | Sends your message. |
| Shift+Enter | Starts a new line without sending. |
While the AI is replying, or before a model has loaded, Enter does nothing and your text stays in the box, ready to send. To stop a reply part-way, click Stop.
Confirming with Enter#
On these screens, Enter presses the highlighted button, once everything it needs has been filled in:
| Screen | Enter presses |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Unlock |
| Create a vault | Create vault |
| Choose a model | Use this model |
| Security key PIN | Continue |
| Memories that need a home | the button at the bottom of the list |
In boxes that hold several lines, such as a persona’s text, Enter starts a new line instead.
Everything else#
The usual keys work as they do in any program: Tab and Shift+Tab move between controls, Space presses the focused button or ticks a box, and Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V, Ctrl+X, Ctrl+A and Ctrl+Z work in text boxes.
Copied text leaves the vault. Anything you copy goes onto the system clipboard, where clipboard history and clipboard managers can keep it. See what exists outside the vault.
